How MRT Mate, the Dhaka Metro Rail app for Bangladesh, handles your information.

Effective date: November 15, 2024  •  Last updated: October 7, 2026

Md Touhidul Islam (Touhid Apps!) built the MRT Mate app — a companion for Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT) commuters in Bangladesh — as an ad-supported app. This Service is provided at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page is used to inform visitors regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information if anyone decides to use our Service. If you choose to use our Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy.

The Personal Information that we collect is used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

Disclaimer: This app does not represent a government entity. It is a personally developed, third-party, and unofficial app. Data like MRT fare and time schedule are collected from dmtcl.gov.bd. This app is not supported by the government or any associated companies.

Information Collection and Use

For a better experience while using our Service, we may require you to provide certain information. Unless described below, the information you enter is kept on your device and is not collected by us.

Login is optional. Most features, including scanning your MRT Pass or Rapid Pass, work without an account. Some features (online backup of card data, People Chat, shop orders and profile photo) need you to log in. Collected data is used for analytics and to improve features.

The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you. Links to the privacy policies of third-party service providers used by the app:

Account and Login

If you choose to log in, we use Firebase Authentication (email and password, Google, Apple or phone number with a one-time code). For Bangladeshi phone numbers the one-time code is sent through our SMS provider. When you log in we store on our server:

Card Balance and Transaction Backup

When you scan your MRT Pass or Rapid Pass, the card number, balance and recent trip/transaction history read from the card are saved on your device. If you are not logged in, this data stays only on your device.

If you are logged in, this card data (card number, balance, transaction history and scan time) is also backed up to our server and linked to your account, so you can restore it after reinstalling the app or on another phone. When you log out, the card data is removed from that device; it is restored when you log in again. Deleting your account deletes this backup from our server.

People Chat

People Chat lets logged-in users with a verified email or phone number chat with other users. To provide it we store:

Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. If a user reports a message or conversation, our moderators may read the reported conversation to review it, and may remove messages or block an account that breaks the rules. Every such access is logged. You can block other users at any time.

Live Location Sharing

The map has an optional Share my location feature. Your location is used only when you turn it on yourself and choose how long to share (up to 30 minutes). While sharing is on:

Sharing stops when you turn it off or when the time you chose runs out. Your shared location is then deleted. If the app is closed unexpectedly, it is deleted automatically after it expires. We keep only your latest position, not a history of where you have been. We do not use your location for advertising.

If you allow location permission, the map also uses your location on your device to show where you are and your nearest station. This is only used on your device and is not sent to us unless you turn on location sharing.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data described above to:

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your card data, messages or contact details for advertising.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the app using the Delete account option on your account screen. This removes your login, your email/phone and profile details from our server and deletes your card balance and transaction backup. Messages you have already sent to other people in People Chat may remain visible to them. Some records may be kept for a limited time where required for security, abuse prevention or legal reasons. You can also request deletion of your data by emailing [email protected].

Log Data

Whenever you use our Service, in case of an error in the app, we collect data and information (through third-party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol ("IP") address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.

AI Money Manager

If you use the optional AI Money Manager, the income and expense entries you add (amount, category, description, date and the text of what you typed or said), your currency, opening balance and bill reminders are stored on our server so the app can show your reports and send reminders. Voice notes are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) only to turn them into text and are deleted right after; the audio is never stored. For AI reports only totals per category are sent, never your notes. This data is visible to the app's administrators for support and to check the AI's accuracy, and every such access is logged. You can delete any entry from the app at any time.

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. This Service does not use these "cookies" explicitly. However, the app may use third-party code and libraries that use "cookies" to collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this Service.

We may employ third-party companies and individuals for the following reasons:

These third parties have access to your Personal Information only to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

Security

We value your trust in providing us your information, thus we strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
